We love yarn. And we like to think that we can make a bit of a difference to the world too. Which isn't always an easy thing to do… but in this case it's a breeze. An absolute delight. A hippy, skippy, happy and delightful thing to do! Aren't we lucky?

So join us, chat with us, enjoy beautiful yarn and accessories and put a smug smile on your face cos you did a good thing.

Why are we such goody twoshoes then? Well, we've found yarn that is locally produced (from sheep to skein), yarn that is fairly traded to help farmers and families in developing countries, sheep-y goodies that support our local Lakeland countryside, hand-dyed yarns from local artisans and, gosh, heaps more.

That's me; it's my shop and I love it!

I chose the name "Brownberry" to tell two strong women (and talented knitters) just how important they are to me. Hilary Brown is my mum, she taught me to knit, although not as soon as she would have liked; I was 30 before I came around to the idea! And Bessie Berry is my great-aunt; more like a grandma to me really. A wonderful and kind lady I recently found out too about her knitting prowess; she won awards from Womens Own Magazine!

Gemma

Also known as KraftyKoala, Gemma does an amazing Sock Club here at Brownberry and you can see more of her gorgeous yarn at Kraftykoala. Gemma is my Chief Yarn & Goodies Advisor and we have her to thank for the HiyaHiya needles being here; she found them first!

Hilary

Hilary is my mum and she helps me out with the accounts for the shop. Her favourite part of the job? Stock taking!
